Want the cheapest car insurance rates for your BMW ActiveHybrid 5? Tired of paying out the nose to pay high car insurance rates every month? You’re in the same situation as most other vehicle owners. Companies like Allstate and Progressive increase brand awareness with ads and it is challenging if not impossible to see through the cute green geckos and mayhem and effectively compare rates to find the best deal.

Compare insurance rates

Most companies provide coverage price quotes direct online. Obtaining pricing is quite simple as you just type in your required coverages on the page. After the form is submitted, the company’s rating system will obtain credit information and your driving record and returns a price. Online price estimates streamlines rate comparisons, but the time required to go to a lot of sites and type in your information can be a bit repetitive. But it’s absolutely necessary to do this if you want to get the best price on insurance.

An easier way to lower your insurance bill requires only one form to obtain quotes from several different companies. It saves time, reduces the work, and makes comparison shopping a lot less work. Immediately after submitting the form, it gets priced and you can select any one of the quotes that you receive.

If you find a better price you can click and sign and purchase the new policy. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes and can result in significant savings.

To find out if lower rates are available, click here and input your coverage information. If you currently have coverage, we recommend that you enter deductibles and limits exactly as shown on your declarations page. This guarantees you will receive rate comparison quotes for similar insurance coverage.

Find hidden discounts to get affordable insurance quotes

Insurance is expensive, but you might be missing out on some discounts to help offset the cost. Larger premium reductions will be automatically applied at the time you complete a quote, but a few must be asked for before you get the savings.

  • Club Memberships – Being in a qualifying organization is a good way to get lower rates on your next insurance statement.
  • Early Switch Discount – Select companies give a discount for switching to them prior to the expiration date on your current policy. This can save 10% or more.
  • Senior Citizen Rates – If you’re over the age of 55, you can get a slight reduction on a insurance quote for ActiveHybrid 5 coverage.
  • Use Seat Belts – Using a seat belt and requiring all passengers to buckle up before driving may be able to save a few bucks off the PIP or medical payment premium.
  • Active Military Service – Being deployed with a military unit could mean lower rates.
  • Multiple Policy Discount – When you have multiple policies and insure them both with the same insurance company you may earn up to 20% off your total premium.
  • First Accident Forgiveness – Not really a discount, but some companies like GEICO, Allstate and Liberty Mutual permit an accident before your rates go up with the catch being you have to be claim-free for a particular time prior to the accident.
  • Discounts for Multiple Vehicles – Insuring multiple cars or trucks with one company can reduce the rates for all insured vehicles.
  • Defensive Driver Discounts – Passing a class that teaches defensive driving techniques could earn you a small percentage discount and easily pay for the cost of the class.
  • New Vehicle Savings – Buying a new car model is cheaper since new vehicles are generally safer.

As a disclaimer on discounts, most discounts do not apply to all coverage premiums. Most only apply to individual premiums such as medical payments or collision. Even though it appears you would end up receiving a 100% discount, it just doesn’t work that way.

Smart buyers can save money

Multiple criteria are part of the calculation when pricing auto insurance. A few of the factors are predictable like a motor vehicle report, but other factors are not as apparent like where you live or how safe your car is.

The list below includes a few of the “ingredients” used by your company to calculate premiums.

  • Liability protection is peace of mind – A critical coverage on your policy, liability insurance is the coverage that protects you if ever you are responsible for causing personal injury or damage in an accident. This coverage provides you with a defense in court to attempt to prove you were not liable. This coverage is relatively inexpensive when compared to the cost of physical damage coverage, so buy as much as you can afford.
  • Extra coverages could be costing you – There are many extra coverages that sound like a good idea at the time if you aren’t diligent. Coverages for rental car coverage, better glass coverage, and motor club memberships may be costing you every month. You may think they are a good idea initially, but if they’re wasting money consider taking them off your policy.
  • Safer vehicles cost less to insure – Vehicles with good safety scores are cheaper to insure. These vehicles result in less severe injuries and fewer injuries translates into fewer and smaller insurance claims and thus lower rates. If your BMW ActiveHybrid 5 scored at minimum an “acceptable” rating on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety website or four stars on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website it may be receiving lower rates.
  • Women tend to be lower risk – Over the last 30 years, statistics show that females tend to be a little less risky than males. It does not mean males are worse at driving than females. Females and males get in accidents in similar numbers, but guys cause more damage. Not only are claims higher, but men have more aggressive citations such as DWI and reckless driving.
  • Get a ticket, pay higher premiums – Careful drivers get better rates than their less careful counterparts. Having just one moving violation may increase your cost to the point where it’s not affordable. People who have severe citations such as DWI, reckless driving or hit and run convictions may face state-mandated requirements to submit a SR-22 or proof of financial responsibility with their state in order to prevent a license revocation.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you

When buying adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there isn’t really a cookie cutter policy. Everyone’s situation is a little different so your insurance should reflect that For example, these questions can aid in determining whether your personal situation would benefit from professional advice.

  • Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
  • Should I get collision insurance on every vehicle?
  • Is motorclub coverage worth it?
  • Where can I get insurance after a DUI in my state?
  • Do I get a pro-rated refund if I cancel my policy early?
  • What exactly is covered by my policy?
  • Am I covered if I hit a deer?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It only takes a few minutes and can help protect your family.

Smaller companies may have the best rates

Consumers can’t get away from all the ads for the lowest price auto insurance by GEICO, State Farm and Progressive. All the companies tend to make the same promise that drivers can save some big amount if you move to them.

But how can every company give you a lower rate? You have to listen carefully.

All companies have an ideal profile for the type of driver that will be a good risk. For example, this type of driver might have to be a married female, insures multiple vehicles, and the vehicle is rated for pleasure use. A customer getting a price quote who matches those parameters will get the preferred rates and is almost guaranteed to save when they switch companies.

Insureds who do not meet this ideal profile may be forced to pay a more expensive rate and ends up with the customer buying from a different company. Company advertisements say “drivers that switch” not “everyone that quotes” save that much. This is how insurance companies can make it sound like they have such great rates.

This really illustrates why you really need to get price quotes at each policy renewal. It is impossible to predict which auto insurance company will have the lowest rate quotes.

Auto insurance 101

Knowing the specifics of a car insurance policy can be of help when determining the right coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring. Listed below are the usual coverages found on the average car insurance policy.

Comprehensive (Other than Collision)

Comprehensive insurance covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as rock chips in glass, damage from flooding, damage from getting keyed and theft. The most your car insurance company will pay is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Collision insurance

This coverage covers damage to your ActiveHybrid 5 resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage pays for things such as hitting a mailbox, hitting a parking meter and crashing into a ditch. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. You can also increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers

Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection from other motorists when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants and damage to your BMW ActiveHybrid 5.

Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage should not be overlooked. Most of the time these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Auto liability insurance

This provides protection from damage that occurs to other people or property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU against other people’s claims. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see limits of 25/50/25 which means $25,000 bodily injury coverage, $50,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which limits claims to one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage protects against things like bail bonds, structural damage, pain and suffering and repair costs for stationary objects. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but consider buying higher limits if possible.

Medical expense insurance

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for expenses for things like rehabilitation expenses, chiropractic care, nursing services and ambulance fees. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not an option in every state and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Save for a rainy day

We just showed you a lot of techniques to shop for 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 5 insurance online. The key thing to remember is the more rate comparisons you have, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. You may even find the lowest prices are with a smaller regional carrier. Regional companies may cover specific market segments cheaper than the large multi-state companies such as State Farm or Progressive.

As you prepare to switch companies, do not sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. Too many times, someone dropped liability coverage limits and learned later that the savings was not a smart move. Your goal should be to buy the best coverage you can find at the lowest possible cost, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.

Cheaper car insurance is attainable from both online companies in addition to local insurance agencies, so you need to shop insurance with both in order to have the best price selection to choose from. Some insurance companies may not provide the ability to get a quote online and most of the time these small insurance companies work with local independent agents.
