No one looks forward to paying premiums for car insurance, especially when they are aware that they could find better rates elsewhere. Companies like State Farm, GEICO and Farmers Insurance all claim big savings with ad campaigns and it can be hard to sift through the bull and find the best price available.

Verify you’re receiving every discount

Some insurance providers don’t list all disounts very well, so we researched both well-publicized as well as the least known discounts that may be available.

  • Sign Online – A handful of companies may give you up to $50 for signing up online.
  • ABS Brakes – Cars equipped with ABS or steering control can reduce accidents and the ABS can save up to 10%.
  • Safe Driver Discount – Drivers who avoid accidents can pay as much as 50% less on S4 coverage than less cautious drivers.
  • Membership in Organizations – Joining a qualifying organization is a good way to get lower rates on your policy.
  • Accident Waiver – but companies like Allstate and State Farm allow you one accident without raising rates if your claims history is clear for a set time period.
  • Active Military Service – Having an actively deployed family member can result in better rates.

A quick disclaimer, most discounts do not apply to the entire policy premium. Most only apply to individual premiums such as liability, collision or medical payments. So when the math indicates you would end up receiving a 100% discount, companies don’t profit that way.

Companies and some of the discounts are outlined below.

  • Farmers Insurance offers discounts including distant student, homeowner, switch companies, good student, multi-car, and business and professional.
  • Esurance policyholders can earn discounts including Pac-12 alumni, Switch & Save, renters, anti-theft, emergency road assistance, DriveSense, and multi-car.
  • State Farm may offer discounts for Drive Safe & Save, multiple policy, accident-free, good student, good driver, and multiple autos.
  • GEICO has savings for defensive driver, daytime running lights, seat belt use, emergency military deployment, good student, and anti-theft.
  • Allstate may include discounts for FullPay discount, teenSMART discount, resident student, anti-lock brakes, eSmart discount, early signing, and new car.

Before buying, ask each company how many discounts you can get. Depending on the company, some discounts might not apply in your area. To see providers with significant discounts, click here.

First Step: Get free insurance quotes

There are a variety of methods you can shop for insurance but one way is easier and takes less work. You can spend your afternoon talking about coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you could save time and use online quoting to get prices fast.

Many of the larger companies participate in a marketplace where prospective buyers only type in their quote data once, and each company can give them a price. This prevents consumers from doing quote forms for each company you want a rate for. To compare rates now click here (opens in new window).

One minor caviat to getting quotes like this is you cannot specify the insurers you want pricing from. So if you want to select from a list of companies to compare prices, we have a listing of insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.

Compare rates however you want, just make absolute certain that you use identical coverages for each price quote. If you enter different values for each quote it will be very difficult to make a fair rate comparison.

When should I discuss my situation with an agent?

When it comes to choosing proper insurance coverage, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so this has to be addressed. Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover if you would benefit from professional advice.

  • Is my 2009 Audi S4 covered for flood damage?
  • I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
  • Does my personal policy cover me when driving out-of-state?
  • When should I drop full coverage on my 2009 Audi S4?
  • How high should deductibles be on a 2009 Audi S4?
  • Can my babysitter drive my car?
  • How high should my uninsured/underinsured coverage be in my state?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions but a few of them apply, you might consider talking to an insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, fill out this quick form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It is quick, free and can help protect your family.

Auto insurance policy coverages for a 2009 Audi S4

Having a good grasp of your auto insurance policy can help you determine the right coverages and proper limits and deductibles. Auto insurance terms can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are typical coverages found on the average auto insurance policy.

Collision coverages – Collision insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision coverage protects against claims like damaging your car on a curb, sustaining damage from a pot hole, crashing into a ditch and hitting a parking meter. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. Another option is to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Medical costs insurance – Med pay and PIP coverage provide coverage for bills like dental work, doctor visits and nursing services. The coverages can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP coverage is only offered in select states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Liability auto insurance – Liability insurance protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people that is your fault. It protects you from claims by other people, and doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show values of 25/50/25 that translate to a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000.

Liability coverage protects against claims like structural damage, medical services, repair bills for other people’s vehicles, legal defense fees and bail bonds. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision – Comprehensive insurance pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive coverage protects against things like falling objects, hitting a deer and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

UM/UIM Coverage – This provides protection from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your 2009 Audi S4.

Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is important protection for you and your family.

More comparisons equals lower rates

We’ve covered a lot of ways to save on 2009 Audi S4 insurance. The key concept to understand is the more providers you compare, the better chance you’ll have of finding inexpensive insurance coverage. Drivers may discover the lowest premium rates come from a small mutual company. These smaller insurers may only write in your state and offer lower prices compared to the large companies like Progressive or GEICO.

There are still a few companies who may not provide rates over the internet and usually these smaller companies only sell coverage through independent agencies. Lower-priced 2009 Audi S4 insurance is definitely available on the web and with local insurance agents, so you should be comparing quotes from both to have the best selection.

As you go through the steps to switch your coverage, never buy poor coverage just to save money. In too many instances, an insured dropped liability limits or collision coverage only to find out that it was a big error on their part. Your goal is to get the best coverage possible at an affordable rate and still be able to protect your assets.
