No sane person is fond of buying insurance, especially when it costs too dang much. You have so many insurers to purchase coverage from, and even though it’s nice to be able to choose, more options can take longer to compare rates and find the lowest cost insurance.

What impacts Honda Civic insurance premiums?

Many different elements are taken into consideration when premium rates are determined. Some of the criteria are obvious such as your driving record, but other criteria are not as apparent like where you live and annual miles driven.Part of the insurance coverage buying process is learning the different types of things that come into play when calculating your policy premiums. When consumers understand what determines base rates, this empowers consumers to make smart changes that can earn you lower rates.

  • Insurance coverage rates and your vocation – Careers like real estate brokers, executives and medical professionals usually pay higher rates than the rest of us due to intense work situations and lengthy work days. Other professions such as scientists, athletes and retirees pay lower than average rates for Civic insurance.
  • The higher your credit score the lower your rates – Credit rating will be a significant factor in determining premium rates. Insureds with high credit ratings tend to be less risk to insure than those with poor credit. So if your credit rating leaves room for improvement, you could potentially save money when insuring your 2016 Honda Civic by taking the time to improve your credit score.
  • Older drivers are lower risk – Older people are shown to be more cautious, tend to file fewer claims .Inexperience drivers tend to be less responsible with other occupants in the car so insurance coverage rates are higher.
  • Extra coverages are wasting money – Policies have optional add-on coverages that sound like a good idea at the time if you aren’t diligent. Coverages for replacement cost coverage, towing, and membership fees may not be needed and are just wasting money. These may sound like a good investment when you first buy your policy, but your money might be better spent on other coverage so remove them from your policy.

How to compare insurance quotes

Getting a cheaper price on 2016 Honda Civic insurance is pretty simple and can save money. You just have to spend a few minutes comparing price quotes to find. It is quite easy and can be accomplished by using one of the methods below.

  • The most efficient way to get the best comparison quotes is to use a rate comparison form click to view form in new window. This type of form prevents you from having to do separate quotes for each company you want a rate for. One form submission gets rate comparisons from many national carriers.
  • Another way to analyze rates consists of visiting the website for each individual company to complete a price quote. For sake of this example, let’s say you want to view quotes from Auto-Owners, Liberty Mutual and State Farm. In order to compare rates, you need to spend time on each company’s site and enter your policy data, which can be really labor intensive. To view a list of companies in your area, click here.
  • The least recommended method to compare rates is actually driving to all the different insurance agencies. Quoting and buying insurance online has reduced the need for local agents unless you require the personal advice that you can only get from talking to an agent. Drivers can comparison shop online but have a local agent actually write the policy.

Compare rates however you want, just make absolute certain that you use apples-to-apples coverages with each company. If you are comparing different liability limits it’s impossible to make a fair rate comparison.

Get affordable auto insurance with discounts

Not many people think insurance is cheap, but there are discounts available to cut the cost considerably. Certain discounts will be triggered automatically when you complete an application, but less common discounts must be asked about before you get the savings.

  • Claim-Free Discount – Drivers who don’t have accidents have much lower rates as opposed to accident-prone drivers.
  • Passive Restraints – Factory air bags or motorized seat belts may earn rate discounts of 25 to 30%.
  • New Car Discount – Putting auto insurance coverage on a new car can be considerably cheaper compared to insuring an older model.
  • Telematics Devices – Drivers who elect to allow companies to look at driving patterns by using a small device installed in their vehicle like Drivewise from Allstate or In-Drive from State Farm might get better premium rates if they are good drivers.
  • Government Employee Discount – Being employed by or retired from a federal job could qualify for a slight premium decrease for Civic insurance but check with your company.
  • Bundled Policy Discount – If you combine your auto and homeowners policies and insure them with the same company you could save at least 10 to 15 percent or more.

Discounts lower rates, but most of the big mark downs will not be given to your bottom line cost. The majority will only reduce individual premiums such as physical damage coverage or medical payments. Just because you may think you can get free auto insurance, companies wouldn’t make money that way. Any amount of discount will help lower the amount you have to pay.

Tailor your insurance coverage coverage to you

When choosing proper insurance coverage, there really is no cookie cutter policy. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s and your policy should reflect that. For instance, these questions can help discover if you would benefit from professional advice.

  • Why do I need rental car insurance?
  • Will filing a claim cost me more?
  • Am I getting all the discounts available?
  • What is medical payments coverage?
  • How do I buy GAP insurance?
  • Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It’s fast, free and can provide invaluable advice.

Car insurance 101

Understanding the coverages of insurance helps when choosing which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be difficult to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. Below you’ll find typical coverage types found on most insurance policies.

Collision coverages – Collision insurance covers damage to your Civic resulting from a collision with another car or object. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision can pay for things such as sideswiping another vehicle, crashing into a building, hitting a mailbox and driving through your garage door. This coverage can be expensive, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to bump up the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Coverage for medical payments – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for expenses for things like dental work, ambulance fees, prosthetic devices, EMT expenses and rehabilitation expenses. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Coverage applies to you and your occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is not universally available but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Uninsured and underinsured coverage – This coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your Honda Civic.

Since a lot of drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Most of the time these limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Liability auto insurance – This coverage can cover injuries or damage you cause to people or other property in an accident. It protects you against claims from other people, and doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 25/50/25 which means $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Some companies may use one number which is a combined single limit which provides one coverage limit rather than limiting it on a per person basis.

Liability coverage protects against claims such as court costs, structural damage, repair costs for stationary objects, bail bonds and emergency aid. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a decision to put some thought into, but consider buying higher limits if possible.

Comprehensive coverages – Comprehensive insurance covers damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like a broken windshield, vandalism and damage from getting keyed. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider dropping full coverage.

In Summary

As you prepare to switch companies, never skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. In many cases, someone dropped liability coverage limits to discover at claim time that they should have had better coverage. Your strategy should be to find the BEST coverage for the lowest price, not the least amount of coverage.

We covered many ideas to lower your 2016 Honda Civic insurance prices. The most important thing to understand is the more companies you get rates for, the better chance you’ll have of finding inexpensive insurance. Consumers may even find the most savings is with a smaller regional carrier. They may only write in your state and offer lower rates than their larger competitors like Progressive and GEICO.

Low-cost 2016 Honda Civic insurance can be found from both online companies as well as from insurance agents, and you should be comparing both in order to have the best price selection to choose from. Some insurance providers may not provide the ability to get quotes online and usually these regional insurance providers only sell coverage through independent insurance agents.
