Your insurance coverage coverage should be tailored to you

When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a one size fits all plan. Everyone’s situation is unique so your insurance should reflect that For example, these questions might point out whether or not you may require specific advice.

  • Why does it cost so much to insure a teen driver?
  • Do all my vehicles need collision coverage?
  • What is the rate difference between pleasure use and commuting?
  • Does having multiple vehicles earn me a discount?
  • Is a blown tire covered by insurance?
  • Do I need an umbrella policy?
  • Is my ex-spouse still covered by my policy?
  • Can I afford low physical damage deductibles?
  • How high should my medical payments coverage be?
  • Is motorclub coverage worth it?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Insurance coverage specifics

Having a good grasp of insurance aids in choosing the right coverages for your vehicles. Insurance terms can be ambiguous and reading a policy is terribly boring. These are typical coverages found on most insurance policies.

Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers

Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include injuries to you and your family as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage is very important. Usually these limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Medical expense insurance

Med pay and PIP coverage pay for short-term medical expenses such as X-ray expenses, nursing services and doctor visits. They are utilized in addition to your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. They cover all vehicle occupants and will also cover being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not universally available but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Comprehensive (Other than Collision)

This coverage will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as theft, hail damage, fire damage, hitting a bird and a tree branch falling on your vehicle. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.

Liability insurance

This coverage protects you from damage that occurs to a person or their property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from legal claims by others. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have liability limits of 50/100/50 that translate to a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount rather than limiting it on a per person basis.

Liability coverage pays for things like legal defense fees, pain and suffering, repair costs for stationary objects, bail bonds and structural damage. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is your choice, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.

Collision protection

Collision coverage pays for damage to your Zephyr resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision can pay for claims like sideswiping another vehicle, damaging your car on a curb, colliding with a tree, colliding with another moving vehicle and backing into a parked car. This coverage can be expensive, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

Save your hard earned cash

Lower-priced 2006 Lincoln Zephyr insurance can be found both online and also from your neighborhood agents, so you need to quote car insurance with both to get a complete price analysis. Some auto insurance companies may not offer the ability to get quotes online and usually these regional insurance providers only sell through independent agents.

When shopping online for auto insurance, make sure you don’t buy poor coverage just to save money. In many instances, drivers have reduced uninsured motorist or liability limits and discovered at claim time that it was a big error on their part. Your strategy should be to buy the best coverage you can find at the best price.
