Do you qualify for discounts?

Insuring your vehicles can cost a lot, but there could be significant discounts to help offset the cost. A few discounts will automatically apply at the time of quoting, but some need to be asked about in order for you to get them. If you’re not getting every credit you qualify for, you’re just leaving money on the table.

  • College Student Discount – Youth drivers who are attending college and don’t have a car may be able to be covered for less.
  • Waiver for an Accident – This one is not really a discount per se, but some insurance companies will allow you to have one accident before they charge you more for coverage so long as you haven’t had any claims for a certain period of time.
  • Onboard Data Collection – People who choose to allow their insurance company to study driving patterns by using a telematic data system such as Progressive’s Snapshot and State Farm’s In-Drive might get better premium rates if they are good drivers.
  • Use Seat Belts – Buckling up and requiring all passengers to buckle up could save 15% on the medical payments or PIP coverage costs.
  • Multiple Cars – Having multiple vehicles with the same insurance coverage company could earn a price break for each car.
  • Clubs and Organizations – Participating in specific professional or occupational memberships or organizations is a good way to get lower rates when getting a car insurance quote.
  • Passive Restraints and Air Bags – Vehicles equipped with air bags or motorized seat belts may get savings of 25 to 30%.
  • Paper-free Discount – A few larger online companies may give you up to $50 shop car insurance on the web.
  • Bundled Policy Discount – If you can combine your homeowners and auto policy and insure them both with the same insurance company you will save nearly 15% which can help you find low cost car insurance.

We need to note that some credits don’t apply to the overall cost of the policy. Most only apply to individual premiums such as comprehensive or collision. Just because it seems like having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, companies wouldn’t make money that way.

Larger insurance coverage companies and some of the premium reductions they offer are:

  • Farmers Insurance may have discounts that include teen driver, bundle discounts, alternative fuel, youthful driver, homeowner, multi-car, and pay in full.
  • State Farm policyholders can earn discounts including accident-free, multiple policy, student away at school, passive restraint, and driver’s education.
  • Liberty Mutual offers discounts including newly retired, exclusive group savings, safety features, new move discount, new vehicle discount, good student, and newly married.
  • MetLife offers premium reductions for accident-free, claim-free, good student, multi-policy, defensive driver, good driver
  • Progressive offers discounts for homeowner, online quote discount, continuous coverage, multi-vehicle, online signing, multi-policy, and good student.

Check with all companies you are considering how many discounts you can get. All car insurance discounts might not be offered in your state. To see a list of companies that have a full spectrum of discounts, click here.

Compare car insurance rates

Effectively comparing car insurance prices can be exhausting if you don’t understand the fastest way to get free quotes. You can waste a few hours (or days) talking to insurance agencies in your area, or you could save time and use the web to get prices fast.

Most of the best insurance companies take part in a program that enables customers to complete one form, and at least one company can provide price quotes based on that data. This system prevents you from having to do quote forms for every car insurance company.

To find out how much you’re overpaying now click here to open in new window.

The only downside to using this type of system is buyers cannot specifically choose the providers you want pricing from. If you prefer to choose from a list of companies to compare, we have a listing of low cost car insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.

How you compare quotes is your choice, just make sure you use nearly identical coverage limits with every price quote. If the quotes have mixed coverages it will be impossible to truly determine the lowest rate. Just slight variations in coverage limits could mean much higher rates. Keep in mind that comparing a large number of companies helps you find a better price. Not every company does price estimates online, so it’s important to also get price quotes from them as well.

Don’t assume everyone needs the same auto insurance coverage

When buying coverage, there really is no one size fits all plan. Each situation is unique and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For instance, these questions could help you determine whether or not you might need professional guidance.

  • Is my teenager covered with friends in the car?
  • Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
  • Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
  • Is a fancy paint job covered?
  • Should I buy only the required minimum liability coverage?
  • How do I buy GAP insurance?
  • What is PIP insurance?
  • Is my ex-spouse still covered by my policy?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Insurance coverages and their meanings

Knowing the specifics of your insurance policy aids in choosing the best coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. These are typical coverages found on the average insurance policy.

Uninsured and underinsured coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your Acura NSX.

Since a lot of drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea.

Collision – Collision insurance will pay to fix damage to your NSX resulting from a collision with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision coverage pays for things such as crashing into a building, colliding with another moving vehicle and rolling your car. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are older. It’s also possible to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.

Liability coverage – Liability insurance will cover damage or injury you incur to a person or their property in an accident. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people, and doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have liability limits of 50/100/50 that translate to $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and $50,000 of coverage for damaged propery.

Liability coverage protects against things such as emergency aid, attorney fees and bail bonds. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as high a limit as you can afford.

Coverage for medical payments – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for expenses like ambulance fees, doctor visits, dental work, EMT expenses and hospital visits. The coverages can be utilized in addition to your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants and will also cover if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is not universally available and may carry a deductible

Comprehensive coverages – This will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive can pay for claims like damage from a tornado or hurricane, falling objects and rock chips in glass. The most a insurance company will pay at claim time is the actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Online plus local equals savings

There are still a few companies who do not offer price quotes online and these smaller companies provide coverage only through independent agents. Budget-conscious 2005 Acura NSX insurance can be found online in addition to many insurance agents, so you should compare both in order to have the best price selection to choose from.

As you quote car insurance, don’t be tempted to skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. Too many times, an insured dropped comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to regret at claim time that they should have had better coverage. The ultimate goal is to buy a smart amount of coverage at the best cost, not the least amount of coverage.

In this article, we covered a lot of ways to shop for 2005 Acura NSX insurance online. The key thing to remember is the more times you quote, the higher the chance of saving money. You may even find the lowest priced insurance coverage comes from the smaller companies. These companies can often insure niche markets at a lower cost than their larger competitors like State Farm and Allstate.
