Want cheaper insurance rates for your Mercury Mystique? I can’t think of a single person who fancies paying their premiums for insurance, particularly when they could lower their rates if they shopped around.

Lots of insurance companies contend for your insurance dollar, and because of this it can be hard to compare auto insurance companies and get the definite best rates possible.

Auto insurance quotes comparison

Shopping for lower auto insurance rates can be exhausting if you don’t utilize the most efficient way to do it. You can spend your afternoon driving to agents in your area, or you could save time and use the internet to get the quickest rates.

Most of the best insurance companies participate in an industry program that enables customers to enter their coverage request one time, and each company then returns a price quote based on that data. This prevents consumers from doing quotation requests for each company.

To participate in this free quote system, click here to open in new window.

The one downside to comparing rates this way is you are unable to specify which companies you will receive quotes from. So if you prefer to pick specific insurance companies to compare rates, we put together a list of auto insurance companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.

Whichever way you choose to compare rates, make darn sure you compare the exact same coverage limits on every price quote you get. If each company quotes higher or lower deductibles it will be nearly impossible to decipher which rate is best. Quoting even small variations in insurance coverages or limits can result in a big premium difference. Just keep in mind that comparing more company’s prices will enable you to find more affordable rates.

Beware of misleading insurance ads

Respected companies like Allstate, GEICO and Progressive seem to constantly run ads in print and on television. They all seem to advertise claims that you can save if you get a free insurance quote and switch your coverage. How does every insurance company sell you cheaper insurance coverage?

Most companies give the best rates for the type of driver that will add to their bottom line. An example of a profitable customer might be described as a female over age 40, owns a home, and chooses high deductibles. Anybody who meets those qualifications receive the lowest rate quotes and will save quite a bit of money when switching.

Consumers who don’t qualify for those criteria will be quoted a more expensive rate and this can result in business not being written. If you listen closely, the ads state “drivers that switch” but not “all drivers who get quotes” will save that much if they switch. That’s the way companies can truthfully advertise the way they do. Because of these techniques, you really need to get as many free insurance quotes as possible. It’s impossible to know which company will have the lowest car insurance rates for your situation.

Auto insurance policy discounts you can’t miss

Some insurance providers don’t list the entire discount list very clearly, so the list below gives a summary of both well-publicized as well as the least known credits that may apply to you. If you are not receiving all the discounts possible, you could be getting lower rates.

  • 55 and Retired – Drivers over the age of 55 may be able to get a slight reduction on a insurance quote on Mystique insurance.
  • Accident-Free Discounts – Drivers who stay claim-free pay much less as compared to frequent claim filers.
  • Discount for Passive Restraints – Vehicles equipped with air bags or automatic seat belts can get savings of more than 20%.
  • Multiple Cars – Having several vehicles with one company can reduce rates for all insured vehicles.
  • Theft Deterent Discount – Cars optioned with advanced anti-theft systems prevent vehicle theft so companies will give you a small discount.
  • Clubs and Organizations – Being in a qualifying organization could earn you a nice discount on your next renewal.
  • Driving Data Discount – Policyholders that allow data collection to track driving manner by using a small device installed in their vehicle like Allstate’s Drivewise could possibly reduce rates if they show good driving skills.
  • Discounts for New Vehicles – Buying a new car instead of a used car may earn a small discount because new model year vehicles keep occupants safer.

A quick disclaimer, most of the big mark downs will not be given to all coverage premiums. The majority will only reduce the cost of specific coverages such as physical damage coverage or medical payments. Just because you may think it’s possible to get free car insurance, you aren’t that lucky.

Insurance agents can help

When buying coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is not a cookie cutter policy. Every situation is different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For example, these questions can aid in determining whether you could use an agent’s help.

  • What if I total my 1995 Mercury Mystique and owe more than it’s worth?
  • Can I rent a car in Mexico?
  • When does my teenage driver need to be added to my policy?
  • Am I covered when driving a rental car?
  • Why do I need rental car insurance?
  • Is business property covered if stolen from my car?
  • Is pleasure use cheaper than using my 1995 Mercury Mystique to commute?
  • What are the financial responsibility laws in my state?
  • Is other people’s property covered if stolen from my vehicle?

If you’re not sure about those questions but a few of them apply, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Insurance coverage breakdown

Learning about specific coverages of insurance aids in choosing which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Listed below are the normal coverages found on most insurance policies.

Coverage for uninsured or underinsured drivers

Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your Mercury Mystique.

Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage should not be overlooked.

Collision coverage

This coverage pays for damage to your Mystique caused by collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision insurance covers things like hitting a mailbox, scraping a guard rail and crashing into a ditch. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so you might think about dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. You can also choose a higher deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

This can cover injuries or damage you cause to people or other property by causing an accident. Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. Your policy might show policy limits of 25/50/25 that means you have a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property.

Liability coverage pays for things such as attorney fees, emergency aid, medical services and pain and suffering. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a decision to put some thought into, but consider buying as high a limit as you can afford.

Comprehensive insurance

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive coverage pays for claims such as fire damage, damage from flooding and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum amount you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.

Coverage for medical expenses

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for expenses for things like EMT expenses, ambulance fees and nursing services. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants and will also cover getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is only offered in select states and may carry a deductible

What is YOUR best insurance company?

Cheaper insurance coverage is attainable online and also from your neighborhood agents, and you need to price shop both to have the best chance of lowering rates. Some insurance companies may not provide online rate quotes and these smaller providers provide coverage only through independent agents.

As you shop your coverage around, don’t be tempted to buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. In too many instances, someone sacrificed liability coverage limits and discovered at claim time that they should have had better coverage. Your objective should be to find the BEST coverage for the lowest price, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.
